Hall Of Famer Mike Singletary And Legendary Center Jeff Bostic Spoke At Event Emceed By Hall President David Baker that Raised Over $50,000
CANTON, OHIO – ProstAware, a nonprofit organization devoted to raising awareness about prostate cancer through the dynamic worlds of music, technology, and sports, hosted the Prostate Cancer Awareness Dinner on Thursday, April 13 at 6 p.m. at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The event was presented by Aultman Hospital, and proceeds from the dinner went to the community to support The Aultman Cancer Center and to help ProstAware continue to bring exciting and engaging events to promote discussions about prostate cancer.The event raised over an impressive $50,000 for prostate cancer awareness.
One of the best highlights of the night were the speakers and performers. Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary was the keynote speaker with a special message from prostate cancer survivor and three-time Super Bowl Champion Jeff Bostic. Both Singletary and Bostic enraptured the crowd with their inspiring speeches. Pro Football Hall of Fame President and CEO David Baker emceed the event. Dr. Scott Miller, president and founder of ProstAware as well as Jeff Bostic’s surgeon, also spoke to the crowd about the importance of early detection, imploring people to stay on top of their health with this disease. There was a special live painting performance by renowned artist Jared Emerson, who created a painting of the Hall of Fame’s gold jacket and building in less than 20 minutes.
Tim Smith, Executive Director for ProstAware and a prostate cancer survivor himself, was thrilled to partner with the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Aultman Hospital. Smith educated the attendees of the event about the statistics of prostate cancer and the importances of receiving early screenings.

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among American men and early detection and proper treatment will save lives.”
David Baker, who presented Mike Singletary with his Kay Jeweler’s Ring of Excellence, said, “We were pleased to host the Prostate Cancer Awareness Dinner at the Hall. The Hall has been an active partner with Aultman Medical Center in prostate cancer screening for our Gold Jackets during Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls for the last three years. Gold Jacket Mike Haynes, through this screening, detected the disease in its early stage. Today, he serves as a national spokesperson for prostate cancer awareness. Prevention is the best medicine.”
“I have never been so inspired and so welcome by the people of Canton,” Jeff Bostic said during the event. “The Hall of Fame is indeed the most inspiring place on Earth.”
Singletary was drafted in the second round of the 1981 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears where he played as a linebacker from 1981 through 1992. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998 in his first year of eligibility. A nine-time Pro Bowl selection, Singletary was All-NFC nine consecutive years and All-Pro eight times during his 12-year career. He was also named Defensive Player of the Year in 1985 and 1988. Singletary finished his career with 1,488 tackles (885 solo), 51 passes defensed, 12 fumble recoveries and seven interceptions.
Bostic was a center for the Washington Redskins from 1980 through 1993 after signing with the team as a free agent. He transitioned to starting center position in 1981 and helped lead the Redskins’ famed “Hogs” offensive line for 14 seasons. Bostic won Super Bowls (XVII, XXII, and XXVI) along with four NFC Eastern Division titles. He was named ALL-NFC in 1983, selected to the 1984 Pro Bowl and named the Redskins Ed Block Courage Award recipient in 1985. In 2015, Bostic was honored into the Washington Redskins Ring of Fame.
